Clean Drinking Water

My roomate is a public health major, and she came in talking about how she was learning about drinking water. She informed me that not having clean drinking water is one of the number one killers of people in the world. There is just simply is not enough clean water to go around for everyone on this planet. I thought it was interesting because its a health problem i never really thought about before and I wanted to share it. I always thought that Slippery Rock water was the worst water ever, at least it hasn't killed anyone!

Speed Stacking

Last year when I took 152, we went to a school and observed a physical education class where the students were using cups to stack and unstack. This was the first time that I have ever saw this and I thought to myself, what is this? it seems kind of an obsurd thing to do in a pe class. Then, this year I went to the state convention and went to a session on these cups, and its actually a sport known as speed stacking. The speaker of this session brought his daughters who actually participate in speed stacking. They did demonstrations and they stack and unstack the cups so fast you hardly even see it happen if you blink. We also learned different games to play with the cups if you spread them across the gym floor. They are actually pretty cool and it something I would definitely like to try with my students one day as a physical education teacher. If you've never heard of them, definietly look them up!

Technology in Education

Today, more and more technology is added to schools for kids to learn. Technology is such high demand because kids now a days use technology constantly. I personally am not a fan of technology at all. I don't have a smart phone, and even recently deleted my facebook. I always feel like there are better things to do then sit on a computer for example, and people just don't seem to communicate in person as well either. I miss the days where we literally had hand written papers or worksheets to do. For me, when I use technology something goes wrong, I find it very unreliable. But, I do realize that technology has changed the world and I will have to just deal with it. In tech pete I have learned a lot about technology that I never knew before such as how to use movie maker, make a post cast, and an interactive powerpoint. Though I am not a fan of technology, I am glad I had the opportunity to learn more about how to use this technology as a teacher one day, so that I can keep up with the times and my students!

Slippery Rock University Parking

I love Slippery Rock University, and I love attending this school. But when I thought to myself what is one thing that bothers me about SRU that I can maybe blog about, parking came into my mind. A simple parking spot can create so many problems. Ever notice that kids line up in their cars in the parking lot one by one as if they are hungry animals and wait for people to leave a spot? I think that parking is the one thing that stresses me out the most every morning. I have literally had to park in staff parking on a few occasions because I would have a test to take or because I had to teach a lesson and cannot miss class. I have fortunately escaped recieving parking tickets in the past; but that might not be the case in future situations. I have literally seen and heard of students who left and went home because they simply couldn't find a place to park for class. Parking across campus could be an option, which benefits physically, but it causes you to be 15 late for class by the time you walk there. I think that Slippery Rock really needs to take this problem into consideration and fix it! Anyone agree or have an opinion?
